Irony of Clegg’s stance after Forgemasters
IT seems rather ironic that Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and MP for Sheffield Hallam, is now flying the flag for regenerating the North of England, with a multi million pound package being suggested (The Yorkshire Post, July 4).
But wasn’t he party to the rejection of a bid for a loan of £80m by Sheffield Forgemasters in 2010?
It was deemed to be unaffordable.

I would fully support an integrated approach to massively regenerating the North, starting with a better public transport system in Leeds, but in my view we’ll need a change of government to have any chance of implementing such a major project.
London has taken far too much from the Exchequer for too long at the expense of our regions.

ON the radio, the political and business leaders in the North were rooting for co-operation and success from Liverpool through Manchester to Leeds. But have they not heard of Hull, the City of Culture in 2017, and Gateway to the North?
