July 13: It’s not just Leeds Bradford Airport that still treats tourists like cattle

TIM Radcliffe writes (The Yorkshire Post, July 8) about his experience at Leeds Bradford Airport and concludes that in future he will fly from an alternative airport.

My advice to him is, don’t consider Manchester. I experienced a similar situation to his when flying to Palma from Manchester last week. I stayed at an airport hotel anticipating a stress free start to my holiday.

Arriving at Jet 2 check-in more than two hours before the flight, the queue can only be described as horrendous. One and a half hours later I was still in the same queue along with many others for the same flight. As the flight was about to board we were ushered into another queue, bags dropped off and told to “ask security to rush you through”.

The security response to this request was to select my hand luggage for additional checks! Eventually having sprinted through the airport, I just managed to get to the departure gate as the last passengers were boarding.

No time for shopping, no book for my holiday and hot and bothered.

I’m not sure that the airports are wholly to blame for this fiasco, perhaps we should be more selective as to which airlines we use. Herding and cattle come to mind.
