July 24: Reasons for police failures in Rotherham

From: Peter Hyde, Driffield.

SADLY the police in Rotherham have been rightly criticised for their failings in child sex abuse cases.

In my opinion, as a former police officer, there are two reasons for this failure.

The first is that their resources have been cut to the bone by the current Government and the second is the fear of being labelled racist if they tackle the community who are involved.

The police of today are in a “lose lose” situation.

From: Andrew Mercer, Guiseley.

I’M not sure if Paul Blomfield’s call for the South Yorkshire’s chief constable to resign is correct – the fault rests with past police chiefs who allowed the abuse to be ignored. Should their pensions be docked?
