July 25: Austria shame of Leeds United ‘followers’

From: John Howe, Ascough Wynd, Aiskew, Bedale.

I READ (The Yorkshire Post, July 23) about Leeds United officials travelling to Austria in the wake of violence from some of the club’s moronic followers (not supporters).

I could not but help compare this with my experience at Lord’s on Sunday.

We were in the grandstand and a group of young Australians were directly in front of us.

They were not entirely sober, but not the worse for drink and were (naturally) enjoying the
day.

At the fall of the final England wicket, handshakes all round were exchanged and good-natured comments made.

This is normal practice at cricket and, I am sure, in rugby. What is it about football?
