July 6: Lawyers let down police by failure to prosecute

HAVING watched many programmes on TV which show the somewhat hazardous lengths police have to go to in efforts to apprehend those breaking the law, I am always amazed when at the end of the show the results show that the culprit has been let off by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The last programme I watched involved a man with no insurance on his bike which then led to the couple being caught growing cannabis in their loft – big time – and yet the CPS suggested there was not enough evidence for a prosecution.

Time and time we have seen video footage of drivers putting other’s lives at risk as they try to escape pursuing police cars – I would class it as attempted manslaughter – and yet even with the evidence of theft, failing to stop and reckless driving, these criminals always seem to be let off by the CPS on the flimsiest excuse.

Quite frankly I ask if we are getting value for money from the CPS because the amount of time and expenditure by the police that goes into catching these criminals is phenomenal. To have the prosecution thrown out on a mere technicality is ridiculous, so it’s no wonder thay most of these criminals just laugh at the justice system. Crown Prosecution? I don’t think so.
