HOW heartwarming and uplifting to read in your august columns the stories of amputee gymnast Anneeka Hussain and keen young fighter Jack Bateson.

Anneeka is just nine but has hopefully beaten cancer so she can concentrate on training and eventually compete as a gymnast in the sport she loves.

Nothing is going to stand in the way of her bravery and determination and we wish her and her caring family well.

We should also be wishing every success for 2021 to Leeds boxer Jack Bateson, who has won 12 professional fights and remains keen to show his skill, stamina and courage in the ring. Jack’s proud to come from Leeds and we are proud of him, a hard young man who is a great ambassador for this best of sports and for his home city, as well as being an excellent role model for the youth of Leeds.

It’s great to see this city produces tough young heroes such as Anneeka and Jack.
