Let Yorkshire keep its money

IT must be a disincentive for officers to chase money obtained by criminals if they have to give 50 per cent of what they recover to the Treasury (Yorkshire Post, March 29).

I am all for “all in it together” but it seems that the Treasury want the better half of it. Fines for speeding also go to them.

Please let them realise that we are trying our best to keep the biggest and best county in the country safe from thieves and speeding road killers and let us have what we earn.

Bagpipes blow an ill wind

AT every public event you go to these days, it appears you hear the sound of the least melodic musical instrumental of all, namely the bagpipes. But outside Scotland, that never used to be the case. So when, and why, did bagpipes start to be so prevalent south of the border?

No socialism in the Bible

I WAS taught that the essence of Socialism was the state ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange. Curiously enough, I cannot find anything about it in the New Testament.

IT has been said that Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, is too old to be the next Archbishop of Canterbury, when we may have had prime ministers too young in Tony Blair and the present one.

I READ with interest the list of Olympic milk and food facts (Yorkshire Post, March 31).

I only hope that it’s all British, unlike the Olympic tickets that I understand were printed in America.
