Let’s be positive about Europe

From: David Fletcher, The Oval, Harrogate.

WHETHER we like it or not, we in the UK now have a huge pool of unskilled labour and most of these people would like a job, for all its reasons.

Instead of moaning continuously over Europe’s self-inflicted woes and looking for ways to pour more funds into its “black hole”, why not look at our advantages?

The unique occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games will open an opportunity to present UK plc to the whole world.

Some “on the ground” effort by politicians and our excellent sales people will offset any lost European markets without diluting our strong and positive interests in Europe’s future structure.

Icy comparisons

From: Julian Hide, North Street, Sutton-in-Craven.

I’M somewhat bemused by the latest allegations by the climate-change luvvies regarding the correlation between the supposed shrinking polar ice cap and the bit of snow we’ve had over the last two and three winters. I would love to know the comparison with the size of the ice cap 55 years ago when my sledge was in prolonged use each and every winter!

I WAS very pleased to read Jeni Harvey’s article about knitted breasts being used as a resource for breast cancer awareness (Yorkshire Post, February 24).

However, no details were published as to contact details should any knitters be interested in volunteering to knit some of these items. A pattern and yarn will be made available.

As a volunteer community champion for cancer awareness for Doncaster NHS, I am a knitter for this initiative. If anyone would like to offer his/her knitting services, please contact Louise Robson on 01302 566214 or email her on [email protected].
