Let’s have a national day to honour NHS heroes – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Jim Clabby, Cottingham.

THE whole country has expressed their appreciation for the doctors and nurses of the NHS and I am one of them, although it breaks my heart to see the nurses crying and totally stressed. They deserve a medal.

I was impressed with your cartoon (The Yorkshire Post, January 30) showing a wreath being presented to a Covid-19 memorial monument, it showed that we are at war with this virus.

It would be good if the Government agreed to an annual remembrance day or even a public holiday so that the government of the day was reminded of the gratitude we have for the NHS.

The Covid pandemic is taking its toll on the NHS.The Covid pandemic is taking its toll on the NHS.

THE World Health Organisation has called upon its members to share their vaccines with other countries once they have secured enough supplies to inoculate their most vulnerable groups.

That is the decent thing to do as it will reduce the global death toll from this terrible disease. By contrast, your “hands off our vaccine” stance seems very mean spirited as you are effectively advocating proceeding to vaccinating less vulnerable groups in this area before the more vulnerable groups in other parts of the country.

I READ three powerful articles in your January 27 edition – Bernard Ingham, regarding how much of Western society has degenerated but hopeful of a return, particularly by the majority who still hold values of independence in one’s self and not only the state.

The second by GP Taylor on the benefit of home schooling and how children adapt. We must be aware of areas in Australia where home schooling is the norm.

And, finally, the excellent article by Peter Dickinson on technical schools/colleges and apprenticeships. How true that not every child is destined to go to university for the sake of it.

What a shame that the Government don’t invite advice from these intelligent and experienced people from the real world. More articles by these please. An enjoyable day with the paper.

From: Alan Lodge, Barnsley.

I FIND it a distraction for your newspaper to be calling for a public inquiry on the pandemic. Yes there will need to be one, but at a much later date. As you state, Boris Johnson is looking worn out and this is because we have never had to face anything like this before. The Government is doing the best it can.
