Little hope or glory for BBC in Proms row over Rule Britannia – Yorkshire Post Letters

SO Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory are examples of racist imperialist propaganda with no place in today’s multi-cultural world.

Britons are tolerant. We are not racist. We are not America. The vast majority of those who have chosen to live here recognise this and have no wish to see the country dissolve into racial violence. Very few want to return home.

So where are our political representatives with the courage to stand up for the millions of decent people who elected them, who are fed up with the continuous bile and abuse hurled at them by a politically-motivated minority bent at destroying democracy and our freedoms? Put an end to the lies of these ‘hate-merchants’ before it is too late.

IT could only happen in this country. At the same time as there is a move to get rid of Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, hundreds, possibly thousands of illegal immigrants, are massing on the French coast.

They appear determined, dare I say, to succeed in getting into this country precisely because in their eyes it is the land of hope and glory, and it is the mother of the free.

France apparently is not such a paradise. In fact those immigrants who have ‘made it’ have revealed to their interviewers that France is a hostile country, little better than where they came from originally. And this is the country that is supposedly going to help us stem the flow of immigrants across the Channel.

There is nothing the French would like more than for the UK to put up signs along the French coast stating ‘The UK welcomes you all...Come and join us’.

THOUGH there cannot be any active audience participation in the Royal Albert Hall on the Last Night of the Proms because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is nothing to stop those missing this annual event from singing along at home.

Singing groups have employed Zoom, so it could still be a communal life affirming event lie clapping the NHS, if only remotely, and given no technical glitches, of course! Perhaps, those most outraged can put together a TV ensemble piece? So, step forward, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Richard Littlejohn, Sir Michael Grade et al and show us what you’re made of!

THE other morning, I received a letter telling me that it is time to set up the next TV licence, which in effect reduces my pension by £4 per week.

The letter states that the BBC (supposedly in their kindness) decided to wait until now, and that they are making it as easy as possible to extract £157.50 per year from us.

I did receive my 25p age-related rise last year. Maybe I should send that to the BBC as a down payment, if they are so desperately in need of a slice of my state pension.
