Locks rise to canal changes

JUST a comment on the archive photograph of the canal in Bingley (Yorkshire Post, February 25).

I think the picture shows the barge entering the first lock of Bingley Three-Rise which is the set before Five-Rise, but more important would be a photograph of how it looks today to show how things have changed since the canal was rerouted to make way for the relief road.

Where is Blair now?

STILL little sign of one of the key players in the Middle East, who went to ground just before the troubles started.

No I’m talking about Europe’s “Peace Envoy to the Middle East”.

I just hope Tony Blair’s pay is performance-linked.

Elderly do not have easy ride

THE Institute of Economic Affairs reports that elderly people have an easy ride in the present recession.

It seems to forget that we have contributed more income tax as we are that much older. They should also remember that we pay tax on our pension.

It is true that I watch television for free and take the occasional bus into town after 9am, but there aren’t that many of us.

WHAT a fine article (Yorkshire Post, February 25) by Father McNicholas on the failure of politicians and others to learn lessons.

It should be on the front page of every newspaper in the land.
