Lower funding hits county

YOUR Editorial “NHS cash crisis needs remedy” (Yorkshire Post, December 8), discussed the £19m funding gap faced by the NHS in North Yorkshire and York.

You pointed out that while North Yorkshire has struggled, other rural areas such as Devon, Dorset and Norfolk have managed to balance the books.

All of these counties are funded more generously than North Yorkshire. If we got the same amount per head of population as Norfolk, we’d get an extra £42m; same as Devon, £88m; same as Dorset, £143m.

Drugs policy 
is failing

COULD it be we have now taken the first hesitant step (Yorkshire Post, December 10) to a cross-party policy on drugs?

I hope so, the present one is failing and has been so for decades. We need men and women of all sectors of the community to come forward, the only qualification needed is vision.

Hit tax avoiders

CAN a way be found to cause the people who plan tax evasion schemes and those who take advantage of such tax avoiding measures to be denied the benefits of tax revenue such as the National Health Service, state education, the fire service, postal deliveries, pensions, police attendance, bus passes, accounts at Lloyds or Northern Rock, and so on?
