March 9 letters: Western interference in the Ukraine crisis

From: Geoffrey Thorpe, Lister Avenue, East Bowling, Bradford.

YOU published a very interesting article by Kalina Zhekova (The Yorkshire Post, March 3) on Russia and the Ukraine crisis, one which I hope is read by all our MPs.

In the opinion of many, the West has caused all the problems in the Middle East by interfering other countries’ affairs. We now have the West interfering in the Ukraine conflict. Why does this country and the EU back the rebels that overthrew a democratically elected government?

If the EU and America had not pushed the country to join the EU, this problem would probably not have happened. I cannot blame the Russians for helping as they do not want Nato forces and missiles stationed on their doorstep.

BRUSSELS has attracted economically challenged countries to enlarge a power-orientated bloc.

The tragedy of Ukraine is a part of this and no one should be surprised at the reaction of its neighbour. It would be prudent to stand aside from flawed ambitions in Brussels, if our politicians can take their heads out of their EU nose bags.
