I HAVE been a Republican all my life and think the amount of money the Royal Family extracts from the British taxpayer is quite outrageous. It certainly could put an end to the deficit completely, and all the places that are set aside for them could house most of the homeless in this country.

The contribution to Country Week by Innis Thompson (The Yorkshire Post, May 2), the new head of the Association of Drainage Authorities, deserves comment. He states that elected councillors form part of the numbers. This is wrong. Councillors are appointed.
