Monarch of mirth

From: Eric Vevers, Turnberry Avenue, Alwoodley, Leeds.

I ALWAYS enjoy reading Malcolm Naylor’s “anti-Royalty” letters and his latest one about the Monarchy (Yorkshire Post, June 28) is on a par with your “Morris” cartoons for raising laughter.

Personally, I can take them or leave them (Royalty that is, not the “Morris” cartoons) but his letters carry more than a grain of truth in them.

MANY people are concerned to keep and bring into use the old building known variously as the New Victoria and later Odeon Cinema Bradford.

It does appear to me that perhaps it might be possible to start an organisation such as has helped other threatened buildings such as – say – The Friends of New Victoria Building Fund with such fund raising activities as “Buy A Brick” and helpful fund raising activities such as concerts by well-known personalities, of whom I believe there are a number.

Olympic wait

From: Jack Brown, Lamb Lane, Monk Bretton, Barnsley.

THERE was no advance notice of the time that an Olympic torch would be carried through Barnsley on June 25. Barnsley police said they would be closing Huddersfield Road at 11.30am.

A torch finally passed at 14.55pm.

We should put an end to IOC greed and create a permanent Olympic site in Greece where it belongs.

Rubbish attitude

IT is not the first time that Jayne Dowle has expressed views which are both uninformed and harmful (Yorkshire Post, July 2). This week she encourages us not to bother to sort our rubbish properly, nor to take our own bags to the supermarket.
