‘Move Leeds Bradford Airport to nearer Selby’ – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Melvyn Woodhead, Woodhead Investments and Development Services Ltd, Providence Street, Wakefield.

THE article spelt out by Michael Meadowcroft about Leeds Bradford Airport, and problems with its location, made a lot of sense (The Yorkshire Post, January 29).

It is as simple as this, Leeds Bradford Airport outgrew itself years ago. It is the most unsuitable site for a commercial airport.

Very few people enjoy using it due to its unsatisfactory layout and terrible access for vehicles.

It is also around 1,000ft above sea level adding further handicaps.

Yorkshire deserves a far better site for an international airport, i.e. somewhere between Leeds and Hull.

Ideally, take 1,000 acres plus of land around Selby north of the M62.

This would counterbalance Manchester Airport and
let Yorkshire folk have the pleasure of not driving
over the Pennines to get on a plane.

A major expansion plan is earmakred for Leeds Bradford Airport.A major expansion plan is earmakred for Leeds Bradford Airport.

Leeds Bradford Airport
could still be kept for lesser activity i.e. freight/leisure/short haul.

The local residents would
be pleased and greater prospects could be had by all with a
brand new airport akin to Manchester.
