MS sufferers deserve more

From: Mrs I Ravenhill, Rownlea, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

I READ in the obituary section (Yorkshire Post, August 27) of the sad death of Elizabeth Bryce. Like her I have MS, but cannot get the drug Sativex, as North Yorkshire will not allow doctors to prescribe it, even though it has been licensed to be given on prescription in England.

This is very distressing, as it would give me much longed for symptom relief. I wish that ‘the powers that be’ could walk (or rather try to walk) in my shoes for just one day. Then they might just change their minds.

Cold summer disproves myth

THE Met Office has just confirmed this was the coldest summer since 1993, following the coldest winter since 1947. So much for the idiotic myth of global warming.

Maybe now those mistaken individuals who still believe in man-made global warming will forget their inaccurate computer predictions and leave the rest of us to get on with our lives without being tortured by pecuniary taxes designed to punish our civilisation for being so successful?

Those who believe in this nonsense are welcome to wear their hair shirts and live in caves if that is what they want but, for goodness sake, don’t expect the majority of the human race to be taken in by their childlike fairytales.

What’s in acountry name?

From: Ms M J Lilly, Follifoot, Harrogate

LOVING the ‘As I was Saying’ column in Country Week, like my fellow Tykes, I was amused to read Josie Barns’ letter (Yorkshire Post, August 27) mentioning ‘John Willy Daggtop’.

In our family the Christmas turkey, whether cock or hen, has always been referred to as John Willie Plotkin. Might anyone know why or could it just be one of our family’s odd names (of which there are several!)?
