North Yorkshire Police can’t stop Tier 3 residents driving to county – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Michael Green, Baghill Green, Tingley.

I’M sure that the vast majority of those of us who live in a Tier 3 area wouldn’t even think of risking the health of ourselves or others by travelling for leisure into a Tier 2 area just because the rules are less strict there. Indeed, the rules specify that the Tier 3 restrictions on “gatherings” apply to Tier 3 residents wherever we are. And the Government advice endorses this.

This may be particularly hard for those who live close to a Tier 2 boundary, and whose normal life takes them across the boundary, but rules are rules.

But none of this excuses the comments attributed to Supt Walker of North Yorkshire Police (The Yorkshire Post, December 4) that “it is neither necessary or acceptable to leave a Tier 3 area and enter a lower tier area for a day trip or to visit a pub or a restaurant for a meal” and that “people who do travel for such reasons will have action taken against them”.

How should the Tier restrictions be enforced? How should the Tier restrictions be enforced?
How should the Tier restrictions be enforced?

Non-essential travel, whatever that was (it was never exhaustively defined), was prohibited under the England-wide lockdown. But that prohibition has not been carried forward into the “tiers” system. There is likewise no prohibition on up to six people from unconnected households enjoying time together in the open air such as in parks and on the moors. So why are North Yorkshire Police threatening legal action against people who are not breaking the law?

RECENT letters have debated whether the benefits of Brexit are assured. When pro-Brexit hardmen make silly claims about Brexit helping get the Pfizer vaccine approved outside the EU, and about our scientists and researchers being better than those of other countries (after the Pfizer vaccine was
developed in Germany by a leading pair of Turkish scientists), it raises doubts about distortions being used to demonstrate benefits.

Some politicians seem to be bending the facts to make the case for benefits, which surely confirms our doubts.

NEVER in the history of virus control have the actions of so few affected the lives of so many, risked the health of so many, shortened the life of so many and hindered the race to normality.

The few are a disgrace to themselves, a disgrace to their families and are a disappointment to the good people of Calderdale.

Why can’t the few toe the line and then we can all get out of this together?
