Old age just isn’t much fun

From: Jean McDonald, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

WHAT a good letter from Mr Jones (Yorkshire Post, July 7). I had begun to think I was in a minority of one.

Like him, I am in good health with a good family but I find old age depressing. I have passed all the signposts: school, work, marriage, children, retirement and widowhood. There are no targets left, just get up in the morning and go to bed at night.

Readers will think “what a miserable old soul”. Not so, I am bright and cheerful and do voluntary work visiting lonely people.

I totally agree with you, Mr Jones. The aged who want to leave this world should be given the opportunity of doing so.

Meanwhile, as the song says, “Keep right on to the end of the road” Mr Jones.

We visited Leeds over the weekend to see your museums.

The state of the nearby war memorial is dire. The city councillors, mayor and executives must pass this spot frequently.

A few council workers could rectify this situation with due respect to those remembered last November.

Waxing lyrical about gristle

From: PI Lambert, Ilkley.
