Our ‘family ties’ with Americans

From: Ron Farley, Croft Way, Camblesforth, Selby, North Yorkshire.

NIGEL F Boddy’s letter (Yorkshire Post, July 17) is spot on! Many people still look upon the Americans as family just because their main language is English, as were the so called “Founding Fathers”.

The vast majority are of
other European descent, including Irish, Hispanic and Norse.

How many of these harbour filial feelings for this country? How many people in this
country know that it is only a few short years since we finally discharged the debt we owed the US for the materials and equipment they “lent” us during World War II?

Make mine a whisky Mac

From: Jess Holt, Englefield Crescent, Holme Wood, Bradford, West Yorkshire.

MY goodness! There are
some clever people about, aren’t there?

Someone has invented a urine-powered mobile phone (Yorkshire Post, July 17).

I do not have a mobile phone and would probably not know how to use one but I would be sorely tempted if someone brought out a malt whisky-powered mobile phone.

Come on you boffins.

It’s our business

From: Hugh Rogers, Messingham Road, Ashby, near Doncaster.

JAMES Bovington (Yorkshire Post, July 18) rudely tells a
reader that he should “mind
his own business” when it comes to the Co-op giving money to Labour.

Sorry, but if a major high
street trader gives money to a political party, that’s something its customers should know about. The actual amounts don’t matter.
