Paying the price of funding club

From: Iain Morris, Caroline Street, Saltaire, Bradford.

IT is little wonder after they have ploughed £51m into Hull City Football Club that the Allams are reluctant to put any more money in.

It reminds me of the old joke about Liverpool Football Club. Question: What is the easiest way for a man who owns a football club to make a small fortune? Answer: Start with a large fortune.

It is not unreasonable for the board to want Hull to be self-sufficient in the transfer market, the only trouble with this being it could precipitate a slide down the divisions as has happened with other clubs.

However, it must be said that £51m is a staggering amount of money from one family.

True cost of insurance

From: David Bradley, Arden Court, Horbury, Wakefield.

THE letter from D Birch hits the nail on the head over car insurance: huge amounts of TV advertising and constant increases in policy costs even though no claims for years (Yorkshire Post, May 7).

However, I notice that Jack Straw complained about the premiums, well he would, after 13 years of being chauffeured about but now has to pay for his own. He would be better off pushing for everyone to be insured.

EXCUSE me! Did I miss something? If Leeds is Yorkshire’s capital city, did York disappear when I wasn’t looking?

Not so ‘grate’

From: Keith Flint, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

I’VE received text messages from a friend in which the word “great” is spelt as “grate”. Is this the best we can hope for – a nation of illiterates? Great. Not.
