The people must come first, not private enterprise

From: S Marshall, Lane Side, Wilsden, Bradford.

When are we English people going to stand up for ourselves? The Government is planning to sell the ground from under our feet and yet we do not protest.

They have already sold all our assets (water, gas, electricity) but now they want to sell off our forests. Thank goodness Scottish and Welsh MPs have refused to allow this. What is wrong with our MPs who go along with everything that the Government decides to do?

Now that we need the profits from all these once publicly-owned companies, we do not have them. The only income the Government has now is the taxpayer – and we are taxed very heavily indeed to pay for the mistakes of the bankers, while they go virtually unpunished. Indeed, they received great bonuses for putting the country into virtual liquidation.

I think there should be a referendum every time there is a proposal to sell off publicly-owned property. It is ours and we should have the chance to say whether it is sold or not.

If we really want to save money, then why not bring the Army home from Afghanistan and save lives and all that expense instead of selling our assets?

It’s time the Government ruled for the people and not for private enterprise.
