Poles apart on history lessons

From: John Gordon, Whitcliffe Lane, Ripon.

IT’S remarkable how history can be re-arranged to suit a point of view. Mr O’Hara (Yorkshire Post, December 7) admires Germany and says the Germans recovered after losing large tracts of land to Poland and the Baltic States.

A look at a history book will tell him that the Second World War was started by Hitler’s invasion of Poland who parcelled up the area with Stalin, almost exterminating the Polish population.

I think Mr O’Hara should take a trip to Poznan or Krakow but be careful not to speak German or Russian.

Three cheers

MAY I put in a good word for the beleaguered BBC? David F Chambers’s enjoyment of Sunday morning Classic FM is marred by an irritating presenter (Yorkshire Post, December 6). I suggest he tries BBC Radio 3.

Every morning he will be welcomed by friendly, informative presenters undisturbed by infuriating commercials. Criminal waste

From: G Baker, Driffield.

I THOUGHT the whole idea of this Police Crime Commissioner move was to get elected people to link the public with the police, (Yorkshire Post, December 6).

So now in Humberside we have a second choice commissioner and a deputy that no-one chose. An immediate demonstration of poor judgment and a blatant display of cronyism.

WITH regard to the construction of a Northern Crossrail scheme, when I was a student at Hull in the 60s Inter-City trains ran between Hull and Liverpool. What happened to them?
