Praise for cheer by parks staff

From: John Sykes, Old Lane, Leeds.

DRIVING around Leeds, one can only give the greatest praise to the gardeners of Leeds City Council for the beautiful displays of flowers now flourishing on the many roundabouts, flower beds and safety barrier boxes. Also various parks.

While realising many of these have sponsors’ names on them, it is ability of the parks department staff that put them together.

These people can only make the day more pleasant when we look at the mayhem created by some sections of our society presently.

Keep going you gardeners and cheer us all up a bit.

How to improve Government

From: John Rookes, Rotherham.

TO my mind, the only way to improve Prime Minister David Cameron and the coalition Government is by having a strong resolute Opposition (Tom Richmond, Yorkshire Post, July 9).

Ed Miliband and his motley crew seem incapable of holding them to account on policy, even the gritty yet admirable Vince Cable seems to have lost the will to live when it comes to his principles.

Stronger fringe parties also need to be more vociferous.

Wages to match those in China?

From: Brian Hardy, All Hallowes Drive, Tickhill, Doncaster.

JOHN Redwood finished his article (Yorkshire Post, July 11), by writing: “Counties and unitary authorities also need to take as many actions so services provided are provided in Britain at a price that competes with China and India. That is the way ahead.”

Is Mr Redwood therefore suggesting that wages in this country should sink to the level of those in China and India?
