Protests will bring violence

From: Peter R Hyde, Driffield, East Yorkshire.

IT is very clear to me that we are going to see further demonstrations in the capital by disaffected citizens who are objecting to the cuts imposed by the coalition Government.

It is also very apparent that these demonstrations will be highjacked by anarchists who will take every opportunity to cause damage to property and loot shops. The Government should rush legislation through Parliament to make it an offence to take part in a demonstration wearing any kind of face covering or disguise. Of course, all this is a dream as the Human Rights Act would be invoked – we all know the only people who have human rights are the criminals and not the people whose property is destroyed.

I RECKON this should become a statutory law of the land: a newly-elected Prime Minister will have his or her passport confiscated and only returned at the end of their term in office. All overseas contact is to be made by letter, phone, and video link.

Every time they go abroad, they get the urge to give away millions of pounds. Is it an inherited sickness of office? The latest £650m to Pakistan is (allegedly) to give children an education at our expense, so they don’t grow up to hate us. So, Dave, order all the school supplies, from British firms and ship it all out. At least you’ll be creating a money-go-round, as opposed to a money-go-out-gone!

Old favourites

WHAT a wonderful picture of the late 1960s Fords in the motoring section (Yorkshire Post, April 9).

The first car I ever drove was a Mk 2 Consul and it was on the old Pollington airfield. I was 15 years of age. However, it was a four cylinder engine and I am sure the cubic capacity was 1703. I found the article most interesting and I think you should have more of them.
