Pygmies at large after by-election

From: TM Driffield, Bagby, Thirsk.

THE antics of the leaders of our main political parties after the result in the Bradford West by-election just show what political pygmies they are.

It brings to mind an old saying: “There is no situation so dire that it cannot be made worse by the intervention of a politician or a lawyer.”

It is time our political masters took notice that the people require a different direction on a large number of policies.

This means an about-turn on Europe, immigration employment and a vast increase in support for British industry.

If these do not happen, the majority of voters will turn to peripheral parties for better or worse. Our leaders have been warned.

AT Easter, we see cute baby animals everywhere – fluffy yellow chicks adorn greeting cards and adorable lambs gambol in the fields. But the reality for these animals is not as pretty as the pictures. In farms and slaughterhouses, these babies are treated as mere units of production.

Each year, 30 million day-old male chicks are killed by the egg industry, because they cannot lay eggs and don’t put on weight quickly enough for meat production. Ewes are forced into producing more lambs than is natural at the wrong time of year. Every year some four million newborn lambs die within a few days of birth, mostly from disease, exposure or malnutrition.

So this Easter, spare the little ones and celebrate life by choosing to go vegan.

Match point

SO, Liverpool Football Club will not play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. I respect their feelings. But will they please be consistent and also refuse ever to play on the anniversary of the Heysel disaster out of respect for the Juventus dead?
