Reform of child 
benefit system

The Government is thinking of cutting child benefit to four children, with reducing amounts for each successive child.

Originally it excluded the first child, so my mother didn’t benefit. Another mother, with a large family, said: “You can’t keep a child on five shillings a week” (25p). I wonder what our parents would have thought of the luxury now afforded by the system?

Having had an art education, I can assure John Watson (The Yorkshire Post, July 10) that the art establishment lives in a rarified world in which he would be known as a “real” person. This is a compliment.
