Research shows toll of deaths

QUICK research reveals that since 2001, the number of coalition deaths in Afghanistan, up to August 12 this year, has reached 2,583.

They were fathers and mothers, boyfriends and girlfriends, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles.

Every death wrenched the hearts out of families. Among the horrific total of fatalities were, up to writing, more than 385 British.

So, I ask our politicians why do they sustain their view that the Taliban will be defeated?

Do they just do it for the money?

WE really are plumbing the depths when the wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons is appearing on the moronic Celebrity Big Brother.

The people who run Channel 5 should really search their consciences when they intend broadcasting such rubbish.

Duke is not some ordinary spouse

I AM writing to complain about your recent front page heading (Yorkshire Post, August 20) entitled “Duchess of Cambridge and husband visit victims of rioting”. I would point out that the “husband” in question is hopefully our future king not some ordinary spouse.

It is understandable that Prince Charles was reported to have felt “overshadowed” by Diana’s popularity. I sincerely hope the Press are not going hound this new addition to the Royal family as they did her.
