Rhinos lift the sporting gloom

From: Mrs Margaret Ratcliffe, Wynford Terrace, Leeds.

AS a former Leeds United season ticket holder and current Yorkshire CCC member, I can only empathise with Austin Mitchell’s dismay at their present plight (Words of the Week, Yorkshire Post, February 25).

However, is he not aware that in the midst of all this Yorkshire sporting gloom, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League are flying the victory flag and have done since 2004? Five domestic Grand Final wins and three World Club Championships, have all been accomplished with dignity and style in, arguably, the hardest game in the world.

Others in the country are clearly paying attention – even if Austin Mitchell isn’t.

Syria warning

From: David W Wright, Easingwold, North Yorkshire.

WHILE accepting that the current internal conflict in Syria is tragic, the UK government cannot get embroiled in trying to sort out Syria’s problems, as past and current experience in Iraq and Afghanistan has shown (Yorkshire Post, February 25).

Where is the United Nations which surely should be getting involved, instead of individual nations poking their noses into other countries’ affairs?

Stutter support

From: Colm F Ruane, Bronx, New York.

AS a PWS (person who stammers), I enjoyed your recent article “Finding the words to break free of stammering” (Yorkshire Post, February 22) about Liam Pogsdon who has made such progress stammering with the McGuire Programme.

I think readers should know that the McGuire Programme is not the only source of help available for stammerers. There are many other outstanding therapies.
