Royal dress sense shame

From: Terry Duncan, Greame Road, Bridlington, East Yorkshire.

HOW one must feel for the families of our soldiers, sailors and aircrew when pictures are displayed in newspapers of Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, attending the Monaco wedding attired in the uniform of a senior officer of the senior service.

He should be ashamed of himself continuing to appear as a toy soldier or sailor, boasting a host of medals, none of them for any glory that he has brought on this country.

Stick with a pin-striped suit, boy, and stop offending this nation by continually turning out in fancy dress.

If the title fits – use it

From: JW Smith, Sutton-on-Sea.

I WAS surprised to learn that the Maggie Turner, OBE, chief executive of the Diana Award (Yorkshire Post, June 29) had failed to familiarise herself with the protocol regarding Royal family spouses.

Men do not become princes and women are not princesses; they are given titles. Camilla, Sophie, Catherine and Sarah are not princesses and Diana was not a princess – she was Diana Princess of Wales.

Shortly after the wedding, I saw another newspaper referring to the Duchess of Cambridge as Princess Kate.

THERE has been much talk from Conservative Housing Minister Grant Shapps regarding the help his government is prepared to give to the eternal problem of access to the housing ladder, namely 20 per cent shared equity returnable on the sale of a property and the 75 per cent to be stumped up by the potential lender.

Public, please note – the same or similar scheme was operated by the previous government.

What the scheme fails to do is address the broader concept of how individuals’ families access housing within their means.

This scheme all but threatens to re-stake the madness of modern-day assumed property values.
