Sex abuse scandals that tarnish some glittering names

From: John Watson, Hutton Hill, Leyburn, North Yorkshire.

Several items in the media have caught my eye recently relevant to the ongoing sexual abuse scandals.

What I find objectionable is the fact that the police are naming individuals before the cases arebrought to trial so that even if they are declared innocent their names are tarnished for ever.

Now a judge has told a convicted rapist that he can
live wherever he likes after an appeal to the Human Rights Court. Is there no end to this
body interfering in our courts
of law, laws which have been passed by a British sovereign parliament?

The most interesting little snippet and the most significant is that the BBC has said it will compensate any individual abused by anybody on their payroll.

Therein probably lies the reason for all these historic cases of sex abuse coming to the surface. You will never convince me that someone who has been abused 40 to 50 years ago and who has sat on the fence for all those years has finally decided to name the culprit. I still say that if it wasn’t for the horrendous sexual exploits of Savile making so many headlines, we would probably never have heard of all the recent accusations.

It is no surprise to me that the term ”jumping on the bandwagon” is being heard so often in conversations up and down the land.

Let me say that I don’t condone abuse of any kind. I think that those responsible and found guilty of such offences get their just desserts. Surely it isn’t only the entertainment business that is so full of lechers but that is where the money is for an easy touch.

with reference to newspaper reports of abuse cases, it seems to me that the media tends to rush into printing the names of stars who are under investigation for various sex offences. J ust where does the information come from?

It is almost a case of trial by media. What happened to the “innocent until proven guilty” law? It is said that allegations of this nature are easy to make, hard to prove and even harder to disprove.

Stuart Hall pleaded guilty and will be punished but Jimmy Tarbuck and the unfortunate Deputy Speaker, as well as Max Clifford, are suffering even though, as yet, there has been no evidence put before a court and jury. It is a great pity that they should be so but alas, that is the nature of the game as far as fame is concerned.
