Sheffield’s ‘tree felling’ scandal officials must be held to account – Yorkshire Post Letters

I REFER to your Editorial (The Yorkshire Post, October 17) about Sheffield City Council considering ordering an inquiry into the unnecessary ‘wholesale felling’ of perfectly healthy street trees.

Residents of Sheffield 
should demand that there is an inquiry, especially as officials tried on several occasions to cover up why their contractor Amey were felling these 
healthy street trees when tree surgery would have saved the trees.

There are materials available to highway engineers which are flexible and can bridge over buttress roots (nearest to the trunk) to remove trip hazards on pavements.

I hope that the outcome will hold senior officers who were making these decisions to task by removing them from these management roles at director level.

New housing developments are incorporating street 
trees in the urban 
infrastructure.

It is known that trees provide a healthy environment by providing oxygen, attracting wildlife and leading to better wellbeing for residents, not to mention shade from hot summers to name a few of the benefits which trees provide in the urban jungle (environment).
