Show some value for money

From: Terry Duncan, Greame Road, Bridlington.

AS one who started off with a piggy bank 70 years ago and later managed to put a few shillings into the bank every now and then for that rainy day, and at one time getting quite a “nice earner” for some years, I would like to ask if our present day minders David Cameron and George Osborne attend the annual meetings of the banks which are now owned by the taxpayers and allow them to pay disgusting bonuses to those now running the businesses?

If not, why not?

Come on Dave and George – give us an answer on your apparent feeble management of our money.

The day after Hallowe’en

WE are entering that time of year when shops start selling items relating to Hallow’een.

Now I’ve nothing really against the innocent traditional activities that people take part in, though I draw a line at the unlicensed begging of that American import called trick and treat.

However, I do wish that people were told that All Hallows Eve is just part of the story.

For the morning afterwards sees All Saints’ Day, when we celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

Which to me matters far more than dressing up as witches or wizards!

Rooney’s ban is deserved

From: David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Acomb, York.

I AM very pleased that UEFA have banned England footballer Wayne Rooney for three games, and because of this, he will miss all three of England’s first qualifying group matches in the European Championships.

With a record like his, and his usual awful role model example, it is the very least that should happen to him, and any other “sportsman” who behaves so badly, and so often.
