Sir Keir Starmer is as bad as other ‘whingeing idiots’ – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Dave Croucher, Pinfold Gardens, Doncaster.

I AM sick to the teeth of hearing the whingeing idiots going on about changes to the rules about lockdowns, distancing, washing hands, closing shops and businesses.

There are still people in the supermarkets around here shopping and not wearing masks. If people can’t stick to a few rules to save lives, and help take pressure off the doctors and nurses of the NHS, then England is in trouble.

And Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer (The Yorkshire Post, December 19) is as bad as the rest – he complains about everything the Government does. Surely he is bright enough to realize that the virus is a living thing that changes all the time?

Planning against something that is constantly changing is very difficult and things have to be changed at short notice to defend against it.

If the virus in our society could be controlled, then the Covid-19 virus may be beaten much sooner.

From: Dick Spreadbury, Liversedge.

OUR country is under a sustained attack from an unseen enemy – Covid. It doesn’t even play fair, with its sneaky predilection for mutation.

But what is the response from the movers and shakers of our once illustrious nation? Constant political point scoring, coupled with unconstructive criticism of every action the Government takes in trying to contain this threat to our health, wellbeing and way of life.

For goodness sake, give it a rest. Can you all just put party politics aside for a few months at least, and work together for a change, in this, the nation’s hour of need? Or does this go too much against the grain?

From: Alan Chapman, Beck Lane, Bingley.

MANY northern Labour MPs and politicians led by the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, have relentlessly politicised the pandemic measures. They have been fanning the flames of envy between the North versus the South, purely for political advantage. Never waste a good crisis, they were advised.

The Government is learning as it goes, employing foresight based on scientific evidence and advice. The horrific news that a new virus variant is 70 per cent more infectious than the original was placed before the Health Secretary and PM on Friday, next day the Government announced the emergency introduction of Tier 4. We await the next set of bellyaches from Labour’s northern mob with disdain.
