Slip in the text message

MR Hyde, of Driffield, complains about the poor written expression of today’s Arts graduates Yorkshire Post, May 16). I have to point out his error of expression.

He says that their mistakes may be “due to” the use of text messaging. He should have said “owing to”. “Due to” means should be given to: “Owing to” means because of.

Question of sanity

I’M writing this letter as I’m lost for words.

An immigrant, convicted of 20 offences, jailed on several occasions and who used five aliases to cause confusion, is set to receive damages because he’s been held in custody too long while officials try to sort things out. Who paid for his lawyers? Who paid for the London hearing? And my final question. Are we mad?

Your Editorial hits every nail on the head and the letters to the Editor are revealing. One contributor even solved a major problem of the NHS – are there any more solutions from his “fount of wisdom?”

Fergie’s regret

So the Duchess of York is distressed she was not invited to the Royal wedding and said she would have loved to have dressed the girls. Given their subsequent outfits, it’s a pity she didn’t.
