Small wonder over rise of anti-Europeanism

From: John Watson, Hutton Hill, Leyburn.

I FIND myself agreeing with several economists in the end-of-year Press about the future of Europe in 2015.

Once again it looks like Greece is going to hit the headlines, mainly because there is going to be an election shortly and it looks as though the left wing party Syriza may win. They have such outlandish demands which may eventually lead to a Greek default.

The Le Pen Front National party in France, which is very anti-Europe, is being tipped to put up a good show in the next French election, and there seems to be a growing “anti” trend across Europe by nations whose economies have been nearly ruined by the European Union which is still asking them to toe the line.

Nobody seems to know what is going on in Brussels. Why can’t we be told what the Commissioners are earning in salaries and expenses? The same applies to the MEPs. We know what our MPs are earning so what is the difference?

And why is it that several failed politicians in this country can go to Brussels and be appointed into highly-paid jobs?

I think the result of an examination along those lines may shock people so much
that they would become Eurosceptics.
