So much for democracy

From: Stephen Davis, Barncliffe Close, Sheffield.

DAVID Cameron has dismissed calls for the leader of Ukip to be included in the next election debate on TV between party leaders, stating that in his view “they (the debates) should be about the parties that are to form the Government”.

I thought I lived in a democracy! No doubt voters will, in due course, make it “abundantly clear”, as he consistently appears to do, that his views and opinions are not theirs.

I COULD not agree more with the sentiments expressed by J D Woodhead (Yorkshire Post, January 19). I’m not a racing fan but I always watched The Morning Line on Channel 4.

It was a winner, with all the presenters named. Why change a winning formula? When will these people ever learn? Never, I suspect. I hope John McCririck takes them for every penny.

Upside down

From: David Nutt, Crag View, Huby, Leeds.

WITH regard to Graham Snowdon’s letter (Yorkshire Post, January 17) correcting my geography re the attractive Irish Sea resort of Whitby, it seems that rather than as he suggests, using a different map from his, I must have been holding it upside down. Worried by this, I have decided that I should apologise to wandering customers seeking Fortune’s Smokehouse for misleading them, and withdraw from any further kipper correspondence.

Banks puzzle

From: GJC Reid, Mayfield Road, Whitby.

BANKS defraud people – bailed out and allowed (encouraged!) to carry on. Man defrauds banks – jailed for several years.

Am I missing something?
