Steer clear
of clamp town

From: Mrs Jennifer Bookbinder, Cottingley Gardens, Leeds.

WITH reference to the letter from Eric Vevers (Yorkshire Post, September 5) and his comments about SB Oliver’s letter, I simply cannot agree with its contents.

I thought Mr Oliver’s observations about all the mistakes the “voluntary driver” had made while parking at Haworth were both constructive and relevant. The only person who seemed naive was the voluntary driver, not Mr Oliver!

Although I too, abhor clamping and large release fees, I think most people have by now heard about Haworth’s murky practices, so perhaps it is best to give its attractions a wide berth until such time as they stop fleecing the public.

Dressing down

From: Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby, York.

I WONDER how many of the “Holier than thou” brigade who criticised Prince Harry for enjoying himself in his birthday suit, would be able, or willing to join him now, fully dressed and off to serve his country in Afghanistan (Yorkshire Post, September 8).

I would bet all England to a hay seed that the answer is not many.

Bloom wrong

From: John Collins, Old Maltongate, Malton.

WHAT arrant nonsense from Godfrey Bloom (Yorkshire Post, September 6). If careless motorists hate the police for catching them, that’s no reason not to catch them. If all the statistics show that short prison terms don’t prevent re-offending, maybe it’s time to look at what attempts are made, in prison and afterwards, to prevent this rather than simply giving out longer sentences.
