Strip Duchess of her title

From: Janet Berry, Barfield, Hambleton.

What a disgrace and embarrassment Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York have become.

It comes to something when the Duke is portrayed by cartoonist Gerald Scarfe as falling from the top of the hill from the well-loved nursery rhyme (Yorkshire Post, March 10). It must make his mother cringe.

It is long overdue for Sarah Ferguson to be stripped of her Duchess title and for the Duke to lose his “job” as roving ambassador for England.

He has become an embarrassment.

She keeps making “mistakes” by accepting money from unreliable connections.

What an example these two set for their two daughters Beatrice and Eugenie.

Clegg’s future looks unhealthy

From: Terry Palmer, South Lea Avenue, Hoyland, Barnsley.

IT is now reported that the Lib Dems, led by Nick Clegg, are backing the Tory proposed cuts of at least 50,000 NHS jobs.

The Health and Social Care Bill cuts will be as well as the £20bn so-called efficiency saving.

Many fear that the Bill is about promoting division in the name of competition with private companies including US health profiteers poised to take whole slices of our NHS and that patient outcomes will suffer and the quality of care will vary between the proposed consortia, creating a new postcode lottery.

Come the next General Election, what’s the odds that Mr Clegg will, I fear, be looking for a safe Parliamentary seat away from Sheffield and probably as a Tory?

Keep salaries under control

From: Arthur Quarmby, Underhill, Holme.

The scandal of public sector salaries, which continue to escalate out of control even in these hard times, will continue as long as officers are in a position to set or influence the setting of their own remuneration, and until some independent control is imposed on them.

This should also apply to bankers, whose salaries and bonuses should be closely controlled by shareholders.
