Tale of flagging fortunes at clubs

THERE was a time when 
English football clubs flew the Union Jack. They no longer do that and fly the flag of St George now. It is rather ironic that in a time when Scottish independence is to the fore. The only football club left in Britain that sports the Union Jack is Glasgow Rangers.

We witnessed this in a big 
way in Yorkshire at Stuart McCall’s testimonial game 
when an ex-Bradford City XI played an ex-Rangers XI at the Bradford & Bingley Stadium on April 28, 2002.

Dutch can help over flooding

AS a Dutchman living here for over 40 years, I agree with Jake Johnson (Yorkshire Post, January 3). We should seek technical advice from the Dutch with regard to the flooding. The saying in Holland is “God made the world, but the Dutch made Holland.” How true!

name of Cook, did not share Graham Snowdon’s view (Yorkshire Post, January 2) regarding the orientation of Henrietta Street, or they might well be now residents on the Arctic ice cap.

Worldly unwise

interview, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith 
said that Labour’s tax credit system attracted fraudsters 
from across the world. HMRC 
do not keep records pertaining to the nationalities of claimants. Where does he get his information?
