Thank you for camp-out help

From: Benjamin Hood, aged 12, Shay Lane, Walton, Wakefield.

I WOULD like to say a big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me during my month-long sponsored camp-out in June in aid of the 23rd Wakefield Scout Group.

I would especially like to thank the Yorkshire Post, in particular Mike Cowling, and the team from Calendar.

It was a relief to get into my own bed on that first night but I found I couldn’t sleep as well as I had been doing in the tent! I am still collecting the money in and so far it comes to £650. I am planning to hand a cheque over to my scout group in September when we return from the summer break.

Once again, a great big thank you to everyone.

Name dropping

From: Bill North, Headingley Lane, Leeds.

THE article about the folly in Settle (Yorkshire Post Magazine, July 30) refers to Lord Dawson, a former editor of The Times, as being a member of the Dawson family of landed gentry.

I remember Philip Dawson telling me that Lord Dawson was not a member of the family and the family’s irritation when he changed his name.

I believe Lord Dawson’s surname was actually Robinson.

Clashing symbol

From: Trev Bromby, Sculcoates Lane, Hull.

THE word “pound”’ has many meanings, but to my knowledge only two symbols – 16 ounces equals a pound and 100 pence equals a pound.

At which point did a BBC boffin (Ceefax) decide to replace £ with #, which is the symbol for number, more associated with USA comics?

Answers please, BBC.

Crazy claim

From: Mrs Betty Peel, Wharfedale, Filey.

IF Levi Bellfield succeeds in his claim for £30,000, which is quite possible in this crazy world (Yorkshire Post, August 4), can he then be sued by the relatives of his victims for the full amount, and also for any assets that he may have?
