They turned out in their thousands, but here they are ignored

From: T Marston, Acer Court, Lincoln.

They turned out in their thousands in Tunis and we applauded their move for peaceful, constitutional reform and regime change and for the departure of Ben Ali.

They turned out in their thousands in Cairo and we applauded the departure of Mubarak and eventually peaceful democratic and constitutional change in Egypt.

The Government welcomed this democratic Arab Spring.

They turned out in their masses in Benghazi – and we took the lead to send over missiles and aircraft to protect the thousands who want democratic and constitutional change.

We turned out in our tens of thousands in London – not for constitutional or régime change – but simply for a change in the pace of reform.

Yet the two minority parties, who comprise an unrepresentative coalition government, acting on a post-election coalition agreement, refuse to consider the demands of the demonstrating would-be reformers.

Who has the best democracy?

Those who can effect change – or those who mistakenly put their trust in the machinations of others to make changes for them? Time for a review of how we do it here before it gets too Libyan.

I HEAR that disruptions to the Royal wedding are being planned following the London riots.

After seeing the damage done in London, the police should already be warning these so- called protesters, which really we all know are thugs out to cause trouble, that if anybody obscures their face by wearing hoodies, scarves, balaclavas etc they will be told to remove them or face possible punishment in the form of water canons.

If these thugs – sorry, protesters – are so brave when working in large numbers, then perhaps we should be able to see their faces and put names to them.

If their families and friends see them carrying out such practices, perhaps they would not be so keen to cause such damage and instill fear into others who are at locations for genuine reasons.

In truth, they are cowards and dare not be identified. Well, if you do the crime, then you should do the time and face punishment.

THE hypocrites in Parliament never learn. With the country almost bankrupt and people suffering service cuts and financial hardship, the Government launches a war on Libya at a cost of billions.

David Cameron claims the war is to save civilians, yet already many civilian lives have been lost through coalition bombing and Tomahawk cruise missile strikes in western Libya.

Also, the Government ignores brutal oppression in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

However, the height of hypocrisy is that they are supporting Libyan rebels who rose up against their government.

What was Colonel Gaddafi supposed to do? Welcome the rebels into Tripoli! No, he did what Mr Cameron and any other lunatic British leader would do in similar circumstances, send in the military to crush the uprising.

Cameron’s war has nothing to do with saving lives but everything to do with stealing Libyan oil and gas from a more compliant rebel government.
