Time to calm down dear

From: Dennis Johnson, Firbeck Road, Bramham.

I AM pleased to find that I am not alone in decrying the over-reaction to David Cameron’s joke aimed at the MP Angela Eagle (Yorkshire Post, May 2).

I agree that the country, in particular Members of Parliament, should grow up. Does anyone take anything said at Prime Minister’s Questions seriously anyway?

Imagine my reaction when I turned to the next page and discovered Jayne Dowle’s column. Perhaps someone should tell Ms Dowle to “calm down dear”.

From: Duncan L Long, Coxley Crescent, Netherton, Wakefield.

Jayne Dowle defends the undefendable in Ms Eagle. Mr Cameron is a breath of fresh air in politics and his retort to another member of the House was inspired.

Who cares if she is female? It’s ability that counts.

Gove not set for the heights

From: Keith Moore, Richmond.

MARK Stuart (Yorkshire Post, May 2) was premature and mistaken to write so forcefully in defence of Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, and suggest he will hold one of the great offices of state in time.

The Building Schools for the Future fiasco; college education in crisis; confusion over free schools; changes to pensions; Mr Gove’s list of failures is endless and would be deserving of the sack if we had any emerging politicians who could do a half competent job.
