COME on Scarborough Council, it’s time to step up and take the town forward.

This year can more or less be written off and I appreciate this pandemic has cost us all a lot in pain and money, but we have an opportunity now to propel our resort as an attractive and inviting holiday resort once again.

As many people will, no doubt, turn their backs on foreign holidays for the next year or so, it gives the town a chance to push forward and get them to come here.

What can be done to help Scarborough return to its pomp? What can be done to help Scarborough return to its pomp?

First of all, pedestrianise the south sea front – making it a feature to be envied by other resorts. Add seating down the middle and encourage the buskers and street entertainers to perform down there instead of the town centre. Cafes could spread their seating areas avoiding distancing anomalies.

Push ahead with the Futurist site and see something permanent there before next season starts.

Let’s also concentrate on the forgotten north side.

Are we ever going to get something built on the outdoor pool site, indoor pool site, Kinderland site and Zoo and Marine land site?

The North Bay could be so good, but all that happens is that residents are fobbed off with various excuses leaving it look tired, dated and cheap.

From: Mike Minchella, Scarborough.

MY wife and I have underlining health problems and for the past 12 weeks we observed the lockdown rules, only going out once a week to Sainsbury’s for
essential shopping, wearing masks.

To our amazement the majority of shoppers were not wearing masks or keeping their distance. In all the 12 weeks, we have never received one phone call or a knock on the door to see if we were all right.

Now the lockdown has eased, we hope the pandemic doesn’t get worse and that people will observe the rules.

THE opening up of businesses is a good thing for the economy but I hope all the hard work done trying to contain Covid-19 is not in vain. I saw on the news stories about pubs. The practices of social distancing and face coverings went out of the window. I don’t want to be a killjoy, but I hope there will not be a spike in cases of coronavirus. Our NHS don’t want it and I clearly don’t want it. Stay safe and be alert. Covid-19 is still with us. It’s deadly. Be careful.
