Tiny garages drove me round bend for decades

From: Martin Fletcher, Savile Close, Emley, Huddersfield.

I HAD to laugh at the letter from Bob Watson (Yorkshire Post, May 25) with regard to garages in new houses. I could have written this over 25 years ago.

If you look at all the new estates that have gone up around the country since 1980, you will know that apart from very large five bed houses with double garages, garages have been built for garden tools and bric a brac or Minis.

I worked in Royal Mail letters for over 20 years. From postman in 1979 to Anglia planning manager in 2000, when I took early retirement. From North London to Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk and indeed anywhere, the new estates have the same styles with one undersized garage, where there is one.

The narrow roads on the estates, covered with cars up the kerbs and over the corners make them very hazardous for drivers. The people upgrading themselves had little class and just dumped the car anywhere, with, in a lot of cases, a large caravan stuck up the drive so using the garage for a car was definitely out. And you only just have someone like me (who should know better) whingeing about it.

This shows the intelligence and parlance of the new 30 somethings etc.
