Too few officers to police virus rule-breakers – Yorkshire Post Letters

THERE is little doubt in my mind that there will be a massive spike in Covid-19 infections. It is tragic that we who have really tried to protect ourselves and others, by abiding by the rules, will find all our efforts wasted because of other idiots who just don’t care about themselves and those about them.

Already we are seeing people in cities and towns crowding together without a care in the world, and without masks.

Due to the actions of previous governments who cut police numbers to save money, there are insufficient police officers to carry out normal duties without the addition of trying to police idiots who either break the rules by partying or demonstrating against the rules intended to protect we vulnerable 80-year-olds.

I WAS interested by your Comment article, indicating that GP surgeries should be involved in the Covid-19 vaccination programme (The Yorkshire Post, December 15). I am 84 years of age, classified as disabled, with a six-year-old grandson who now lives with me and I am required to take him to school every morning and collect him from school at the end of the school day. I am also involved in taking him to various after-school and weekend activities.

I consider myself to be in a very vulnerable category but when I approached my GP surgery to inquire about a vaccination I was told that they knew nothing about a vaccination programme and that I must wait for the national rollout, whenever that may happen. So much for GPs trying to re-connect with their patients.

AS each year approaches its end I often, probably because I am much older, reflect on the past year and even further into the past. Much can be said about leaving the past behind and this is probably a good piece of advice.

Yet this year has, to say the least, been a very hard and different one for most of us. But we have been treated to long periods of moans and groans, and very few positive one.

Thankfully we now have a vaccine and we should be thankful to all concerned for this breakthrough. We are also blessed with a Royal Family who has supported us through this crisis.

My wish for 2021 and beyond is that we count our blessings, we could be living somewhere in the world where our lives are threatened daily by much more than a virus.
