Train line that takes the strain

From: Geoffrey Ternent, Holt Park Gardens, Leeds.

I REALLY must comment upon and disagree with the totally unnecessary and vitriolic rant by Christopher Lawson (Yorkshire Post, October 8).

In more than 40 years of using the Leeds to Harrogate/York Northern line, admittedly departing from his arrival point, I have only twice had a train not arrive on time as decreed by the digital clock on display. The ticket-master in the Horsforth office could win Mastermind with his specialist subject (train times and fares) and his ever-smiling face and polite demeanour make him a ready-made poster boy for a new “let the train take the strain” campaign.

Maybe Mr Lawson would prefer the buses through Headingley, or the car journey along Kirkstall Road instead? Now, if he were bemoaning lost time spent in the admirable Fox at Horsforth, he would have a supporter. Get a life, son.

A price worth paying – again?

From: Terry Palmer, Hoyland, Barnsley.

Well surprise, surprise, who would have thought it? It’s taken David Cameron and his Lib-Dem cahoots less than two years to achieve unemployment figures of 2.57 million.

This is the highest figure since they, the Tories, were last in office and the highest figure for 17 years. Remember the last time they oversaw such figures? They told us all “it is a price worth paying” – and no doubt this nasty lot will secretly be thinking the same.

Silly billys

From: Stephen Nichols, Lightcliffe, Halifax.

The Right Honourable Liam Fox, the (former) Defence Secretary allegedly takes his friend, Adam Werritty, around the world. Cabinet Office Minister, Oliver Letwin, takes a walk round a London park and allegedly throws away official letters.

In the words of the Bradford Grammar School-educated Lord Denis Winston Healey, former Deputy Leader of the Labour Party – what a pair of “silly billys”.
