Undermining a laudable point

From: JL Wheeler, Stamford Bridge.

BILL Carmichael’s column (Yorkshire Post, September 28) is laudable for its commendation of Her Majesty the Queen’s expression of frustration over the failure of successive governments to expedite the extradition of Abu Hamza.

It is regrettable that he then proceeds to mangle and abuse the English language with a mid-Atlantic abomination: “We might have gotten rid etc.” For goodness’ sake, please refrain from insulting our intelligence with this sort of ungrammatical rubbish.

I NOTICE that you put the title “Islam film put in perspective” on two letters (Yorkshire Post, September 25).

The video may be offensive to Muslims but it pales into insignificance when compared with the sort of programmes regularly broadcast on Middle Eastern TV channels abusing Judaism in terms reminiscent of Julius Streicher’s Der Stürmer in 1930s Germany.

Do I detect a modicum of hypocrisy or only a lack of perspective?

I WAS amused to read of Chatsworth Muscat grapes being harvested and sold in London and on site (Yorkshire Post, September 22). I am cutting bundles of Black Homburg grapes out of my 12ft x 8ft unheated greenhouse and giving them to family and friends.

It seems to go from the ridiculous to the sublime. Muscat grapes are golden, luscious fruits whereas Homburg are less sweet.
