Ways to battle bad driving

From: John G Davies. Alma Terrace, East Morton, Keighley.

I SEE the problems listed by Fr McNicholas and JW Slack every day, as traffic descends into East Morton (Yorkshire Post, July 7).

Seeing so many poor drivers and knowing that UK roads are amongst the safest in the world does not give me much hope that things might improve.

To me the possible solutions are diametrically opposed, either we should educate drivers more rigorously so they are properly aware of motoring’s dangers and the consequences of their selfish actions, or much of the control of speed and separation should be done automatically, the technology exists and it is really only one step on from Satnav.

Policing and common sense

From: Paul Morley, Ribblesdale Estate, Long Preston, Skipton.

PEOPLE held on a coach for hours over a fake cigarette, elderly dementia patients handcuffed (Yorkshire Post, July 6). I feel truly sorry for today’s generation of police officers.

None of this would have happened when they were allowed to get on with their job and use the greatest weapon at their disposal – common sense.

Missing the point

I REFER to the letter from John Wilson (Yorkshire Post, July 4). Being a solicitor, his head is full of useful information, but he has missed the point.

They may only have one chance.
