What accident victims need

From: John Wilson, Wilsons Solicitors, New Road Side, Horsforth.

REGARDING the letter (Yorkshire Post, September 9) from the lawyer about the rights of vulnerable accident victims, the writer’s organisation (APIL –- the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) does a lot of good work but on this they are as myopic as the legal profession generally is.

What accident victims need is a straightforward inexpensive and fair way of assessing and paying their compensation, not the kerfuffle we have now. But we lawyers benefit from the system, so we project our love for it on to our clients.

QUIRKY maybe, but the misuse of the English language demeans it. I refer to the common practice of calling black and white colours. They are not. They are shades. They are used respectively to darken or lighten true colours. Correct me if I am wrong by showing me black and white in any rainbow.

George’s day

From: Terry Barry, Arncliffe Gardens, Batley.

I WAS reading Sarah Freeman’s column about George Formby’s Musical Appreciation Society (Yorkshire Post, September 7) which I found to be interesting.

However, Miss Freeman is wrong about the date of George’s anniversary. It is not the 60th anniversary but the 50th anniversary because I was present at the funeral in Warrington in 1961.

Church theft

From: Iain Morris, Caroline Street, Saltaire, Shipley,.

NOT a scrap of mercy for our churches: too true in our thieving society where nothing is sacred (Yorkshire Post, September 7). Thou shalt not steal is the eighth commandment.
